Estelle Chen awarded the ‘Excellence in Finance — Leaders’ award at FiNext Conference Orlando 2019
Estelle Chen was awarded the Excellence in Finance — Leaders award for their significant contribution towards the financial sector at FiNext Conference 2019, held at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress, Orlando, Florida.
Born in Paris of Chinese parents, Estelle started at Lycée Français de Pékin (private French school in Beijing), where she quickly became trilingual, before moving back to Paris. Adventurous, she moved to Montreal alone in 2009 for her university studies. Graduated from HEC Montréal with a major in Finance, Estelle spent several years on the corporate side accumulating experience on both a public and a private level before joining the banking industry in the technology sector — with a focus on technology and life sciences.
Estelle joined BMO Bank of Montreal in summer 2018 as a Regional Market Leader, Technology & Innovation, to help local teams grow in technology, build the brand and convey the strategy and vision of the Senior Management. She is now a Director, part of BMO’s Technology & Innovation Banking Group focusing on industry-leading offers tailored to the technology sector, including venture debt and recurring revenue.
Mathematical on one hand, and artistic on the other, Estelle Chen — Director, Technology & Innovation Banking and pianist concertist, makes the alliance of the two. This gives her open-mindedness and creativity in her leadership.
Born of a mother composer, pianist, and violinist, Estelle flourished in a musical bubble. Her grandfather, a renowned conductor in China, has also appeared on stage several times with her. Laureate several years in a row at the “Grand Concours International de Piano” (international piano competition) in France, Estelle performed Chopin’s Concerto for Piano No1 at the age of 12 and Rachmaninov’s Concerto for Piano no.2 shortly thereafter.
Growing up, Estelle put aside music to focus on analysis and financial modeling. Know-how in advanced financial modeling, investment analysis, capital raising and senior debt financing, with a deep understanding of the innovation entrepreneurship ecosystems to help existing and future clients.
Nevertheless, the piano is never far away — the young woman performs regularly at jazz bars. Curious and very active in the community, Estelle has been mentoring young leaders and entrepreneurs for the past few years. She is also involved in several non-profit organizations and the tech and innovation ecosystem as a speaker and advisor.
